Thoughts on a snowy January day

I love snow days! I wish my kids were home from school today. The weatherman last night said we would get snow overnight. I woke up today like a kid on Christmas morning. There were measurable inches of snow on the ground already and it was forecasted to snow all day! I spent most of my day looking out the window at the snow, procrastinating on all the things I should be doing. We recently moved into a new house and there is still unpacking to do. The cats and kids have already adjusted to the new house and to a degree I have too. I am fighting the urge to make everything perfect. The house was built in the 50s and the kitchen is like a step back in time. It is amazing. A single old man was living here before us and he kept it up. He made some changes and updates over time to the rest of the house but didn't touch the kitchen. The oven is the original oven and it works better than any updated oven I have ever owned. We've only been here a few weeks but it does already feel like home. More than any home we ever lived in. The updates to the house will come in the next few years and I guess for today I will appreciate what I have and continue to look out the window at the snow and take things slow.
